Marita Kelly

KELLY, Marita Anne (nee Hughes) 80, of Clearwater, FL, formerly of Manalapan, NJ, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021. She was born on May 25, 1940 in Manhattan, NY, daughter of the late Mary Agnes (nee Carle) and Matthias Joseph Hughes, Jr. She attended St. Helena's High School in the Bronx, NY. Marita was employed by the Manalapan-Englishtown School District as a school bus driver for 25 years. She was also a volunteer on the first aid squad and was certified to teach CPR. Her family often commented that Marita could do anything and everything. She was preceded in death by her son, William Kelly Jr.; her daughter, Karen McGarr (nee Kelly); her sister, Maryellen Dunn (nee Hughes); and her brother, Vincent Hughes, as well as her dear friend; Fred Soden. Marita is survived by her four grandchildren, Hannah and Julie Kelly of Sebring, FL and Jack and Kylie Anne McGarr of Cape May Court House, NJ. She is also survived by her son-in-law, John McGarr III (Deborah), a sister-in-law, loving nieces, a nephew, cousins, and dear friends, all of whom will remember her wonderful, contagious laugh, genuine love of life, corned beef, and Irish soda bread. A Funeral Mass will be held on April 8, 2021 at 11 am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Clearwater, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael the Archangel, Clearwater, FL. Interment will be held at a later date at St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood, NJ.
