Vilma Thompson Obituary

Vilma C. (Cameron) Thompson, 69, of Raynham, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Morton Hospital. She was the wife of forty-eight years to Jerome S. Thompson. Vilma was born in Saint Catherine, Jamaica the daughter of the late Cornaldo and Ivy (Evans) Cameron. She was a graduate of Saint Jago High School in Jamaica. Vilma graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelors degree in accounting. She also graduated with her MBA from Simmons College. She was a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), a Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA) and a Certified Bank Auditor (CBA). Mrs. Thompson worked for several large financial firms in Boston for many years as an auditor. Vilma had most recently worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a supervising auditor in the Brockton office. While at OSA she received the Certified Government Financial (CGFM) designation. She was very active with the Girl Scouts and was a member of the Board of Directors for Eastern Massachusetts. Vilma was a board member, deacon, and sang in the choir at the First Congregational Church of Raynham. Mrs. Thompson also served as the moderator for the Old Colony Association. In addition to those activities, Vilma also served on the national board for the United Churchs Homeland Ministries. Vilma Thompson enjoyed being with her family, playing bridge, and bowling. Survivors, besides her husband, are a daughter: Ivy Thompson of Seattle; three sisters: Jasmin Tulloch of Jamaica; Frances Ocansey of Portland, CT; Jean Agbese of Waterloo, IA; six brothers: Lancelot Cameron of Brooklyn; Keith Cameron of Trinidad; Milton Cameron of Los Angeles; Loxley Cameron of Jamaica, Sylvester Cameron of Jamaica and Ray Elliot of Skokie, IL; along with many nieces and nephews. Calling Hours for Vilma will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017 from 9 am to 10 am with a Funeral Service following in the First Congregational Church (Stone Church) 785 South Main Street, Raynham. Relatives and friends are invited to attend, burial to follow in the Pleasant Street Cemetery Raynham.
