Everett Jones Obituary


EVERETT O. JONES Everett O. Jones, 95, of Vero Beach, a much loved husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather, passed away on April 5, 2013 at VNA Hospice in Vero Beach. He was born in Jamestown, New York. Everett was blessed with many achievements in business, athletics and community service. He graduated from Miami University of Ohio in 1939 and Harvard Business School in 1941 .During WW II he served in the United States Army as a Major negotiating Army Supply Contracts. He served 5 years and was honorably discharged in 1946. Everett joined Container Corporation of America in 1947, retiring in 1980 as Senior Vice President of the Corrugated Division, made up of 32 factories across the nation. Everett and his wife Lucy joined John's Island Club in 1973, becoming residents in 1980. At John's Island, he served for 4 years on the John's Island Property Owners Association Board of Directors. Ev's senior golf career stands him the first and only American golfer to win the 1977 French National Seniors Golf Association Tournament in Deauville France. His record stands today! He also was an active member of both the American and United States Seniors Golf Association. As a long standing member of People to People Golf Association, Everett and Lucy played golf around the world including India, Hong Kong, Brazil, South Africa and Europe. In 2011, Everett achieved the rank of Life Master of the American Duplicate Bridge League. Everett also was John's Island's 2009 Croquet Champion, the most "senior" champion on record, at age 90. He is survived by his wife Lucy Lee, his four daughters Robin Jones, Helena Cochran- Jones , Susan McConnell and Lee Russell, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Services will be held at the Vero Beach Community Church, Saturday, April 13 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA Hospice in Vero Beach. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory in Vero Beach, FL. Online condolences may be sent at www.coxgiffordseawinds.com. Paid Obituary
