Edward D. Losch Obituary
Edward D. Losch

Palm City - Edward D. Losch, retired chief executive, life-long fisherman and prolific letter writer, died on November 25, 2019, with Shirley, his loving wife of 67 years, by his side. The 91-year-old father of three (Bill, David and Cathy) had lived to see his family grow to include six grandchildren (Nicole, Paul, Emily, Matt, Elizabeth and Will) and four great-grandchildren (Kaya, Gunnar, Jasper and Malcom). Ed devoted his life to seeing that his family was well cared for, an ethic he learned from his own parents, Paul and Agnes Losch. He was born in 1928 in Philadelphia, PA, and grew up in the Depression era with is sister, Barbara. He honed his business acumen from an early age. Trapping and selling furs (even the occasional skunk) was one of almost 30 jobs he worked by the age of 19, when he completed a degree in chemical engineering at Pennsylvania State University. Ed joined Koppers Company upon graduation, then took leave to serve in the U.S. Navy for three years. He met Shirley while he was stationed in Bahrain and her family was there with ARAMCO. The newlyweds lived in the island country until his discharge at the rank of Lieutenant. They put down roots in Pittsburgh, where Ed's 30-year career with Koppers took him on business all over the world. Ed eventually became president of the Organic Materials division, which he made the most profitable part of this Fortune 200 company. Retirement in 1982 didn't stick. Ed took on the chief executive role for CGF Corporation in Topeka, KS, then retired to Palm City, Florida in 1989. Ed and Shirley enjoyed an active social life with golf, bridge and travel. Ed found fishing holes in far-flung places, from mountain streams to Caribbean seas, to his own back yard. Always on top of the issues of the day, Ed wrote hundreds of letters offering practical solutions. His penchant for writing is evident in the two memoirs he penned. In keeping with Ed's wishes, the Losch family will have a private gathering to remember their patriarch, a true force of nature. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to .
