MARY JANE HALEY STEPANEK 1923-2011 Mary Jane (Haley) Stepanek, 87, formerly of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 in Salt Lake City, UT. Jane was born on December 14, 1923 in Chippewa Falls, WI to the late Florence M. Haley and Dr. Bernard J. Haley. After graduating from Clarke College in Dubuque, IA, she moved to Milwaukee and taught home economics. Mary Jane married Anton G. Stepanek of Antigo, WI on August 15, 1947, sharing nearly 64 wonderful years together. In addition to being an energetic, devoted, joyful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Jane contributed her time and talent to volunteer activities and as an Eucharistic Minister within her several parishes in Milwaukee: Holy Family, St. Monica, St. Robert, St. Eugene; in Neenah- Menasha: St. Patrick, and Vero Beach: Holy Cross. Jane lived a life full of giving, finding special needs in each of her communities and filling those needs with her love and compassion for helping others. While in Milwaukee she was an active member of the Christ Child Society. When she and Tony moved to Neenah, she volunteered her time to the Valley VNA and Meals on Wheels, becoming friends with many of the elderly to whom she delivered meals. Jane participated in the Neenah- Menasha Emergency Society and was a docent at the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum. In Vero Beach she continued her volunteer activities at the Indian River Medical Center. Jane especially loved babies and small children, evidenced by her joy and generosity when in their presence. Survivors include her husband Anton G. Stepanek; six children: Mary Elizabeth Stepanek, Mexico City; Meg (Stepanek) Bollig, Flagstaff, AZ; Steven Haley (Teresa) Stepanek, Salt Lake City, UT; Thomas (Renee) Stepanek, Racine, WI; Susan Jane (Robert) Juneau, Neenah, WI; Paul (Rachel) Stepanek, Shanghai; daughter- in-law, Cathy Stepanek, Minnetrista, MN; 14 grandchildren: David Stepanek, St. Petersburg, FL; Mark Stepanek, St. Paul, MN; Anna (Todd) Mehlhoff, St. Paul, MN; Claire Stepanek, Minnetrista, MN; Molly (Adan) Bollig, Flagstaff, AZ; Michael Bollig, Flagstaff, AZ; Christopher (Jaymie) Stepanek, North Pole, AK; Gabrielle Stepanek, Salt Lake City, UT; Emily Stepanek, Racine, WI; Haley Jane Stepanek, Racine, WI; Thomas Haley (Deidre) Rippl, Franklin, WI; Katie (Brian) Weber, Neenah, WI; Andrew Juneau, Neenah, WI; Anton P. Stepanek, Shanghai; four great grandchildren: Magnus and Oskar Stepanek, Katelyn and Julius Haley Rippl. She was preceded in death by three children: Timothy (Cathy) Stepanek, Minnetrista, MN; and infant children Mark and Mary Florence Stepanek; brother, Dr. John Haley, Chippewa Falls, WI; sister, Jean (Haley) Quigley; sisters-in-law, Libby (Vern) Palmer and Anne (Glenn) Craig. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Caregiver Support Network, Emeritus at Salt Lake City and Rocky Mountain Care for their compassion and loving care of Jane. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 11:00a.m., Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 670 S. 1100 E., Salt Lake City.
