What a special guy. So many great times together. I especially liked having a drink with him and discussing the world at the Tai Ping, across the street from his Telegram office in Milford. At 10:30, we'd head to the office, and John would fire off his story just before the 11 P.M. deadline. He had a gift for words. He taught me how to write, and I think of him a lot. Especially when I'm struggling to make deadline and remembering how easy it seemed for him.

This is so sad because of the friendship John and I had when he was covering the Town of Milford for the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. A truly superb reporter with great journalistic instincts.
And by far the biggest story he covered in Milford was the December 1980 killing of
Milford Police Sgt. Walter "Moose" Conley.
A story we both covered along with Ed Thompson and Kevin Rudden.
Another sad part of this story is that John's beloved wife Karen and I were both
students at the old Saint Mary's Grammar
School in Milford.
To Karen and all other next of kin of John
my deepest sympathies.
God rest his soul!

John is always in the forefront when I recall my time so many years ago at The Evening Gazette. So good at his chosen profession, and such interesting perspectives on the world and its inhabitants. His remarks so often left me laughing and made my day. I’ll now imagine his playing on high with the Jerry Garcia band.

John was my friend for almost 50 years. We hung out together when he was a reporter for the Daily News, and then a writer and editor for the Worcester Telegram. We spent hours at the Tai Ping restaurant across the street from his office, and we drove our Porsches together to car shows and rallies. I loved watching him spin a story on his typewriter just before his deadline. He had a beautiful way with words. And a wit that was unmatched.
I spent time backstage at concerts he covered, and hobknobbed with a few rock stars through his friendship. Just being around him was such a treat.
I loved him, and I love his beautiful wife Karen. I am going to miss him terribly, but I still have all those beautiful memories. Let's all hold onto to that.

John was a great colleague and friend at the T&G. Emphasis on The Evening Gazette. Will always remember going to a Blondie concert in a hockey rink on Cape Cod with him in his very small convertible (top down) in 1981 as he was reviewing the concert. My condolences to Karen and his family.

John was a class act. One of my first friends in the newsroom. He will be missed.
