David W. Dery, 60

Webster - David W. Dery, 60, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018 in St. Mary's Healthcare Center, Worcester after a 6 year journey with early-onset Alzheimer's disease.

He leaves his wife and best friend of 31 years, Judith A. Konkel-Dery; 3 loving sons, Luke H. Dery, Hayden B. Dery and Treyton J. Dery, all of Webster; his mother, Beverly J. (Hoye) Dery of Webster; 2 brothers, Ricky Dery of Key West, FL and Stephen Dery and his wife Rose of Webster; an uncle, Richard Hoye of Oxford; an aunt, Rachel Avery of Pensacola, FL; his father-in-law, Henry J. Konkel of Webster; his brother-in-law, Martin J. Konkel of Hampton, VA; nephews, godsons and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Dery, by his stepfather, Edwin Stalec, by an aunt, June Lewis and by his mother-in-law Irene (Poswiatowski) Konkel.

He was born in Fort Lauderdale, FL and lived in Webster most of his life. He graduated from Bartlett High School and earned a Bachelor of Business Degree from Lesley University.

Mr. Dery first worked at Digital Equipment Company in Westborough. He was senior claim operations analyst at Commerce/Mapfre Insurance Company for 15 years, retiring in 2013.

He was a devout communicant of Saint Joseph Basilica. He served on the Webster Finance Board and the Webster Recycling Committee. He was a committee member on Webster Youth Soccer and Cub Scout Pack #173. He volunteered many hours at the Webster-Dudley Food Share, Inc.

David loved his family more than anything in the world. He was a loving husband and a devoted father. He looked forward to family camping trips which always turned out to be memorable. He loved working in the outdoors tending to his expansive lawn, vegetable garden, fruit trees, various berry bushes, and large flower gardens. An experienced beekeeper, he was a member of the Worcester Bee Association. He also raised chickens, geese and ducks.

The family expresses great gratitude to Dr. Michael Burday, Dr. Alan Jackson and Dr. Anintida Deb, to the Accord Adult Day Care Center for the compassionate and respectful care of its staff over the last 9 months, and to loving family members and dear friends for all their spiritual and emotional support.

The funeral will be held Monday, June 11, at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street (please meet at the church). Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace. The family will receive relatives and friends from 9:30 to 10:00 AM in the church before the Mass. Calling hours will be held privately. Donations in his name may be made to either the Alzheimer's Support Network, PO Box 839, Southbridge, MA 01550 or to Saint Joseph School, 47 Whitcomb Street Webster, MA 01570. Arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster.
