William Robbie Obituary

William C. Robbie, Sr., 92

CHARLTON/AUBURN - William C. "Bill" Robbie Sr., 92, of Charlton and former longtime Auburn resident, died on Saturday September 28, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Worcester, Bill was the son of George C. W. and Bridget (Manning) Robbie. Bill graduated from high school and, shortly after, enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for almost two years – earning a World War II Victory Medal during that period. Upon his return, he attended college, first achieving his Associates, then Bachelor's Degree at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Bill worked as project manager for the Anderson Corporation, overseeing the installation of windows and doors, then went on to work security for the Telegram & Gazette.

While working at the Telegram & Gazette in the 1980's, Bill met the love of his life, the late Mary E. McCarthy, who had been working as a copy editor at the time. The two were married and shared the next 32 years together, until her death in 2018.

He loved spending time at his family's summer home in New Harbor, ME, where fond memories were made. Bill was a longtime treasurer of the Auburn Hockey Association and was also Post Master of the Joel H. Prouty Masonic Lodge in Auburn.

Bill is survived by his children, Diane L. Maddern of Auburn, Wayne A. Robbie and his wife Judith of New Mexico, and Douglas S. Robbie and his wife Cheryl of Florida; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and the McCarthy family. In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was predeceased by his son, the late William C. Robbie, Jr., and his four sisters.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bill's family on Wednesday October 2, 2019 between 9:30 and 10:30 AM at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 AM, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church - St. Catherine of Sweden Parish, 600 Cambridge Street, Worcester, MA. Aunt Lois, Diane, Wayne & Doug,

Prayers with you all during this difficult period of time. Uncle Bill was always there for my mother, Bobbie, Kip & me while Dad was away on business trips. He would always make Bobby laugh by doing wheelies with Bobby in his wheelchair. Holidays with Uncle Bill was always fun with laughter and his whimsical stories. I just learned of his passing yesterday, October 17th and called Chrissy. We both were saddened by the news. We would have been there to pay our respects.
We thank Uncle Bill for all the memories.
Prayers,
Deb Doherty (Niece/Cousin)

Dear Aunt Lois, Diane, Wayne/Judy and Doug/Cheryl,
My sincere condolences to all of you.
I'll always remember the snow skiing in Hogback, ice skating on Eddy and Auburn Pond and sledding. My favorite uncle who was high energy, enthusiastic, cheerful and fun! He will sadly be missed. He was a gracious host whenever I visited him.
I will always remember his loving, giving spirit to Grandma Robbie and my mom, Georgina Robbie Doyle.
With love to all of you,
Niece/Cousin - Sue McGraw
