Barbara A. Diesslin, 81

HOLDEN - Barbara A. (Cierpich) Diesslin, 81, of Holden, passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at UMass Memorial Medical Center-Memorial Campus, Worcester. She was born in Charlton, the daughter of Joseph J. and Mary T. (Smolen) Cierpich, had lived over 40 years in Holden.

Barbara was a graduate of Charlton High School, Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and earned a BSN from Worcester State College. Her nursing career expanded over 40 years and included Memorial Hospital where she was a head nurse and a day surgical nurse, and later at Hahnemann Hospital as a patient liaison.

She was a devout Catholic, member and Communicant at St. Christopher Church in Worcester. She was also a member of the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association and volunteered her time at the Worcester Ostomy Association. Barbara was active with the knitting group at the Holden Senior Center and enjoyed gardening and handicrafts.

Barbara's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff in the Emergency Room and the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at UMass Memorial-Memorial Campus, for their compassionate care.

Her husband of 37 years, Ernest H. Diesslin, died in 2015. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her sister, Cecelia L. Cierpich of Falmouth, ME; two brothers, Francis J. Cierpich of Dudley and Joseph R. Cierpich of Charlton; a niece, Beth Aulenback and her husband, James of Shrewsbury; a nephew, Mark Cierpich and his wife, Mary of Charlton; a great-niece, Julia Cierpich and two great-nephews, Tyler Cierpich and Andrew Aulenback; and close friends, the Patel family of Holden and the Boulay family of Shrewsbury.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Barbara's family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 28, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, at St. Christopher Church, Worcester. Entombment will follow in Notre Dame Mausoleum, 162 Webster St., Worcester. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to , 7 Oak St., Worcester, MA 01609, or to St. Christopher Church, 950 West Boylston St., Worcester, MA 01606.
