Edward A. Sundburg Jr.

WESTBOROUGH - Edward "Ted" A. Sundburg, Jr. 80, of Westborough passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019 in St. Augustine, FL.

Born in Longmeadow, MA, Ted was a son of the late Edward A. and Anna G. (Teece) Sundburg and lived in Westborough for much of his life while summering and eventually retiring to his true love, Moosehead Lake, ME. He graduated from Monson Academy, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1961. He furthered his education at Babson College's Consortium for Executive Development in 1980.

Ted retired from Norton Company in 1990 after more than 25 years holding several executive positions including Business Manager, Marketing Development, Planning and Technical Ceramics; as well as Global Marketing Development Director, High Performance Ceramics Division where he developed CRYSTAR for the semiconductor industry. Before retiring from Norton, he was President, Ceratronics Joint Venture with Norton Company and Toshiba Corporation. After his retirement, Ted created The Alliance Group, a consulting company, where he and his partner worked with Japanese companies.

Ted was a member of the American Ceramic Society and St. George Orthodox Cathedral and its Men's Club. In addition to his love and devotion to his family, Ted enjoyed many passions including cooking, golf, international travel, history and politics. In his earlier days, Ted was also a skilled craftsman, where he built his own log cabin on Moosehead Lake and often reminisced about the summers building the cabin.

Ted leaves his wife of 50 years, Darlene S. (Costello) Sundburg; 2 daughters, Kristen A. Rawan and her husband, Douglas and Heather K. Schmidt and her husband, Patrick, all of Westborough; 2 grandsons, Douglas M. Rawan ll and Nathaniel P Schmidt; and 2 granddaughters, Sophia E. and Ava K. Schmidt. A brother, John D. Sundburg of Wilbraham predeceased him.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Ted's family on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 9:00 -10:45AM in St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna Street, Worcester. The funeral service will commence at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Fr. Milad Selim, Dean of the Cathedral officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery.

The family requests that flowers be omitted and if you wish to make a donation in Ted's memory, contributions may be made to St. George Orthodox Cathedral Endowment Fund, 30 Anna Street, Worcester 01604.
