Eleanor M. O'Coin
WORCESTER - Eleanor M. (Beesting) O'Coin, 95, of Worcester, died Monday, March 21, 2016 at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.
Her husband of 40 years, Robert E. O'Coin, died in 1987.
Eleanor leaves five children, James M. O'Coin and his wife Veree of Princeton, J. Stephen O'Coin and his wife Polly of Paxton, Virginia M. O'Coin-Foley and her husband William F. Foley of Worcester, with whom Eleanor has lived for 25 years, John P. O'Coin and his wife Nancy of Worcester and Kathleen S. O'Coin-White and her husband Michael White of Centerville, ten grandchildren, Merrilee Grenier, Jamie Schulze and Daniel S. O'Coin; Timothy R. O'Coin and Christopher S. O'Coin; Ann N. Gaudette and Eleanore M. Foley; Sara M. Bauer and Robert E. O'Coin; and Sarah A. White; a great-grandson, Carson Schulze; nieces and nephews. Her beloved daughter, Maryann O'Coin, passed away in 1955.
Eleanor was born in Worcester, daughter of Walter J. and Sara M. (Benoit) Beesting and lived Worcester all her life.
Eleanor was a graduate of North High School. After attending the Salter Secretarial School, she worked several years for the New England Telephone Co.
In 1950, Eleanor was a founder with her husband of O'Coin's Furniture, Appliance and Jewelry Store in Main South. In addition to raising her children, she worked closely with her husband in the growth and management of their family business. She organized the relocation of the store to a larger facility on Mill Street. For most of its years, Eleanor was President and a full time presence at the company.
Eleanor was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish and its former Women's Guild. She was a former member of the College of the Holy Cross President's Council. She also volunteered with the Salvation Army.
Eleanor was a strong proponent of the educational value of reading which she enjoyed immensely.
Eleanor particularly enjoyed spending time with her family at her home on Cape Cod.
Eleanor's family wishes to thank the staff at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center for the skilled and compassionate care they provided her.
Calling hours are Monday, March 28, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. Her funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
