Elton Gallaway Obituary
Elton F. Gallaway, 78

Charlton - Elton Francis Gallaway,78, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 7th, with his family by his side in the Overlook Masonic Healthcare Center, Charlton, after a long illness.

His loving wife of 53 years, Lorraine M. (Robidoux) Gallaway, passed away in 2015.

He leaves his three children, Lynn Leigher and her husband Kirk of Oxford, Brian Gallaway and his spouse Kimberly Merriam of Auburn, and Stacy McGann and her husband John McGann of Auburn; a niece, Kathleen Simons and a nephew, Donald Moulton. He was the proud grandfather of 4 grandchildren, Kristen Outler and her husband Anthony Outler, Jr., Kelsey Leigher and her fiancée Matthew Wilson, Colin Gallaway, and Brooke Gallaway; and great grandfather "3G" to Avery and Maeve Outler. He was born in Charlton the son of Elton G. Gallaway and Palmina (Trifone) Gallaway. Elton was a longtime resident of Charlton where he met and married his wife, Lorraine, and raised their family. He and his wife later moved to Leicester in 2006.

Elton was a salesman for the Southbridge Evening News and later for Kraft Foods, retiring many years ago. He excelled as a salesman for many years mostly because of his caring demeanor and genuine respect for his customers. He gave selflessly of his time to both his family and his community. He and Lorraine shared a love of baseball and were the Red Sox' biggest fans. In the summer of 1991, they even traveled throughout the entire country seeing a game in every Major League stadium. For many years, he served as President of the Charlton Little League and in 1977, cheered that year's team on to the Massachusetts District 5 title. He enjoyed watching his children's extracurricular activities and later in life, his grandchildren's. Upon retirement, he enjoyed many winters in Florida and South Carolina with Lorraine by his side.

He was a longtime member of the Tri-Community Exchange Club, serving a term as Club President. When it was time to deliver the blessing before a meeting, he always answered the call. He had friends from all walks of life, keeping the friends he had in his childhood and making countless new ones throughout his life. He stressed family first and never turned away anyone in need. He loved a good joke, a good meal, and a good drink. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Church in Charlton.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of both the Harrington Cancer Center in Southbridge and The Overlook Masonic Healthcare Center in Charlton where he received the very best of care. We are forever grateful.
