Marguerite "Peg" Shea

WORCESTER - Marguerite T. "Peg" (Armstrong) Shea, 93, died Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.

Peg was born in Worcester, daughter of John F. and Minnie (Cronin) Armstrong.

She was a graduate of St. Peter's High School in Worcester, and the Somerville Hospital School of Nursing where she was also part of the Cadet Nurse Corps. She also later studied at Clark University and Assumption College.

Peg was a registered nurse and a former supervisor of psychiatric nurses at Worcester State Hospital. She also did private duty nursing.

Peg was a former chairwoman of the Massachusetts Nurses Association contract negotiating committee at Worcester State Hospital.

She was a member of Sacred Heart-St. Catherine of Sweden Parish in Worcester, where she was a Eucharistic minister for many years.

She was a member of the Somerville Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Assn., the Diocesan Council of Catholic Nurses, the Mass. Psychiatric Nurses Assn., AARP, Mass. Retired State & Municipal Employees Assn., and the Osteoporosis Support Group of Central Mass.

Peg was the wife of William E. Shea Sr., who died in 2001. Her husband Edward Levesque died in 1976.

She leaves a daughter Teresa Girouard of Naples, Fla., a stepson William E. Shea Jr. of Worcester, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her daughter Joanne E. Levesque, and her twin sister Eileen M. Dumas.

Peg's family wishes to thank the staff of caregivers at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center for their compassionate care of Peg in recent years.

The funeral Mass will be Tuesday, June 14, at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 600 Cambridge St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38103.

The Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.
