Mary "Peg" Shea, 78

WORCESTER - Mary Margaret "Peg" Shea, 78, of Worcester died peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 after a long illness.

Peg leaves her husband of 53 years, Robert L. Shea; a son Kevin Shea of Worcester; a daughter Kathleen Querfeld, her husband Paul, and their son Matthew of West Hartford; a brother Robert E. Kelly of Bristol, Ct. and his wife, Judy; her sister-in-law, Carol and husband, Robert Ciciotte of Cohasset, MA; several nieces, a nephew, and many grand nieces and nephews. Peg was predeceased by her son, Christopher.

Peg was born in Bristol, Ct., daughter of Eugene and Mary (Drury) Kelly.

She was a graduate of Bristol High School and Central Connecticut State College.

Peg had a long career as a public school teacher. She first taught in Bristol before moving to the Worcester area. She taught in the Holden and then joined the Worcester Public Schools where she taught in the fifth and sixth grades at Tatnuck and Midland Street schools for more than 20 years, retiring in 1994.

Peg was an active member of Christ the King Parish, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and Catholic Youth Council advisor for many years. She was also a member of the Tatnuck Supper Club.

Peg enjoyed reading, classic movies, flowers and conversation with her many friends. She loved the time she was able to spend with her family, especially her grandson, Matthew.

Calling hours are Thursday, August 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be Friday, August 10, from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster.
