Michael Lahey Obituary
Michael E. Lahey, 63

Holden - Michael Edward Lahey, 63, of Holden, passed away peacefully, with his loving family by his side, on January 20, 2019, after extended illnesses.

Michael is survived by those he loved deeply: his adored wife, Patricia E. Puracchio Lahey, a daughter, Caitlin F. Lahey of Worcester, a son, Connor J. Lahey and his companion, Jessica Cook, of Boston; an older brother, William F. Lahey, Jr. and his wife Heidi, of Holden; his nephews, Patrick Lahey of Boston and Matthew Lahey and his wife Alicia, of Brockton; his sister-in-law Susan M. Etheredge and her husband Edward of Northampton, and their daughter, Nell Frame and her husband Kyle of Frisco, TX; and many cousins and dear, beloved friends.

Michael was born in Worcester on April 13, 1955, to William F. and Doris M. (O'Connor) Lahey. He was a 1973 graduate of St. John's High School, where he first fell in love with the Xaverian culture. He went on to receive a bachelor's degree from Assumption College in 1977, followed by a master's degree from Worcester State University.

Michael worked at St. John's for over 40 years. He loved teaching English to his students, often reenacting renowned monologues from Shakespeare. He was instrumental in beginning the Worcester County Young Writers Conference and coached freshman basketball for several seasons. His quick wit and animated nature endeared him to many students and colleagues throughout his tenure at St. John's.

Michael was a devout Catholic who truly believed in the Grace of God and life everlasting. His faith was unwavering, even during his times of strife. He said the Rosary twice daily and loyally watched Mass on EWTN. Michael believed that we are all called to give witness to our faith through word and action, and it was this belief that guided him through life.

The family wishes to thank Michael's many doctors over the years, as well as the staff of Rose Monahan Hospice in Worcester, for their attentive and compassionate care.

Michael's funeral will be held Saturday, January 26, from the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St, Worcester. There are no calling hours. Burial in St. John's Cemetery, 260 Cambridge St, Worcester, will immediately follow the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael's memory may be made to the Saint John's Fund, specifically for Financial Aid. To donate, visit https://www.stjohnshigh.org/page/support-sj or send a contribution to 378 Main Street, Shrewsbury, MA, 01545.
