Theodore Bayles Obituary
Theodore F. Bayles, 75

Lancaster - Theodore F. Bayles, 75, a long-term resident of Lancaster, passed away on May 31 in Barre. Born in Boston, Ted is predeceased by his father, Dr. Theodore B. Bayles, his mother, Rachael B. Bayles, and his older brother, Howard B. Bayles, of Weston.

With the loving support of his family and the Dr. Franklin Perkins School in Lancaster, where he lived for 69 years, Ted developed into a hard worker and a true gentleman. On his regular visits home, he enjoyed working outdoors with his father. At Perkins a favorite job was dish-washing in the main kitchen and at Landlord Ben's restaurant in Sterling. Ted also delivered the mail at Perkins, where he kept close tabs on everybody and everything. Every Saturday he made the rounds on High Street in Clinton, where he gained many friends while choosing gift cards and flowers for holidays and birthdays.

Ted did not need a calendar to remember birthdays, because he had an amazing memory for dates, past events, and every detail in his beloved Clinton newspaper, The Item. Among his unusual mental powers, he was a "calendar counter," meaning that for any date mentioned, he could accurately say what day of the week it was-and what the weather had been!

Above all, Ted was a kind, generous, sociable, sweetly mischievous spirit who was much loved by all who knew him. As he grew older he was tenderly cared for at Davis Manor, the assisted-living home at Perkins, and at the end of his life at a DDS group home in Barre. He will be deeply missed by his sisters Louise Bayles-Fightmaster and Martha Bayles, his brothers-in-law Gerry Fightmaster and Peter Skerry, and his many beloved friends.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Janeway Center at the Dr. Franklin Perkins School, 971 Main St., Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Theodore F. Bayles Memorial Fund, Att: Development Office, Perkins, 971 Main Street, Lancaster, MA, 01523-2505. Arrangements under the direction of McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton.
