William M. Hitzenbuhler, 56

Lancaster - William M. Hitzenbuhler, 56, died Monday, July 30, 2018, in his home, after being stricken ill.

He leaves his mother, Maura T. (Rooney) Hitzenbuhler of Hyannis; three siblings, among them, Sean Hitzenbuhler, of Lunenburg, and Tara Hitzenbuhler of Foxboro; and five nieces. He was predeceased by his sister, Maura A. Sargent, who died in 2011.

Bill was born in Ozone Park, Queens, NY, son of the late William G. Hitzenbuhler, and spent his early years in New York and New Jersey, before the family settled in Stow, MA. A graduate of Nashoba Regional High School, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from UMass Lowell. He had been a resident of Lancaster for more than 20 years.

For more than 30 years, Bill worked as an Engineer, specifically as a Commercial Building System Designer, and was employed by Schneider Electric.

A member of the Harvard Gun Club, Bill loved mathematics, reading science fiction, and sheepdogs, and was active with the New England Old English Sheepdog Rescue. His vast knowledge of all matters gave easily to open, lively conversation. Loved by all who had the pleasure to know him, Bill will be remembered as a unique, bright, kind, and gentle person, and will be dearly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton, on Friday, August 10, 2018, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to New England Old English Sheepdog Rescue (NEOESR, Inc.), 49 Stonehedge Rd., Lincoln, MA 01773, or to the , 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
