Sister Marion Julie O'Leary, SND at age 89
WORCESTER - Sister Marion Julie O'Leary, 89, of the Sisters of Notre Dame, died Monday, April 11, 2016 in the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.
Sister Marion Julie was born Eileen O'Leary in Worcester, daughter of William F. and Marion (Harmon) O'Leary. After graduating from Ascension High School in Worcester and Worcester State College, she entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1947. She later received a master's degree in Education from Fairfield University and a master's degree in English from University of Conn.
Sister Marion had a long career in education. She was a high school teacher and vice-principal for more than 23 years at Notre Dame high schools in Mass., Providence, R.I. and Conn. She taught at East Catholic H.S. in Manchester, Conn. and later returned to the staff there before retiring.
From 1974 to 1982, Sister was the Co-Ordinator of Secondary Education Curriculum for the Archdiocese of Hartford. She was Education Co-Ordinator for the Sisters of Notre Dame in Boston from 1985 to 1990.
Sister leaves a brother-in-law, Harry Egazarian of East Hartford, many nieces and nephews, and her sisters in religion, the Sisters of Notre Dame. She was predeceased by her sisters, Marilyn Egazarian and Betty Cross.
Calling hours are Monday, April 18, starting at 1 p.m. with a prayer service at 2 p.m. at the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation St., Worcester. The funeral Mass will follow at 3 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will be in Notre Dame du Lac Cemetery.
