Jean M. (Henrickson) Murphy

WORCESTER - Jean M. (Henrickson) Murphy, 88, of Worcester, died Saturday, November 12, 2016, at the Holy Trinity Nursing Center.

Her husband of 50 years, Robert E. Murphy, died in 2001.

She leaves five sons, Michael F. Murphy and his wife Donna, Paul E. Murphy and his wife Robin, Thomas P. Murphy and his wife Jennifer, all of Worcester, Robert F. Murphy and his wife Mary of Chandler, Ariz., and Kevin T. Murphy and his wife Dawn of Rutland; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Paul, Francis, Richard and Robert Henrickson, and her sisters, Julia Cronin, Elizabeth Clayborne, Helen Lawson and Louise Blouin.

Jean was born in Worcester, daughter of Gustaf C. and Elizabeth M. (Moore) Henrickson and lived in Worcester all her life. She was a graduate of the former Commerce High School.

Jean worked many years ago as an operator at the New England Telephone Co. After raising her children, she became an administrative assistant at the Worcester offices of the Thom McAn shoe company before retiring.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.

Jean was devoted to her family. She loved watching the sports competitions and other activities of her grandchildren. She participated for many years in water aerobics at the Greendale YMCA. She enjoyed playing cards with other residents and friends at the Colony Apts. on Holden Street.

Jean's family wishes to thank the staff at Holy Trinity Nursing Center for their skilled and compassionate care.

Calling hours are Wednesday, November 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be Thursday, November 17, from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove St., Worcester. Entombment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Nursing Center, 300 Barber Ave., Worcester 01606.
