Gloria George, 89
WORCESTER - Gloria M. George, age 89, formerly of Worcester, died of natural causes on March 6, 2017, at home in Gaithersburg, MD.
She is survived by her son Jay George of Gaithersburg; her daughter in law Jill George of Gaithersburg; and her grandchildren, Jason George of North Bethesda, MD and Sara George of Gaithersburg. She is also survived by her nephew Medford Rockstroh and his wife Barbara of Brandon, FL, and her close her friend and care giver Celia Suarez of Gaithersburg. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Albert L. George.
Gloria was born on April 1, 1927 in Baltimore, MD to Mabel and Daniel Medford. She graduated from Norte Dame College in Baltimore with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Economics.
In 1947 she moved to Worcester, and accepted a position as a teacher in the public schools. Also In 1947 she married her husband Dr. Albert George of Worcester, at the cathedral "Mary our Queen" in Baltimore, MD. They were married for 56 years.
Gloria was a social, active person who was a Contract Bridge Life Master and had organized and run political campaigns at the state and local level. She had a passion for teaching bridge and did so at night in the public schools and at private bridge clubs in the city.
Her family and friends will always remember her as a loving mother and grandmother, and someone who truly valued education.
There will be a calling hour Saturday, March 11, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard's Church, 228 Lincoln St., Worcester. Entombment will be at Notre Dame Cemetery.
