Helen B. Proko, 90
WORCESTER - Helen B. Proko, age 90, formerly of Worcester, died Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at the Beaumont Nursing Center in Westborough.
Helen was born in Grafton, daughter of Samuel P. and Anna (Costa) Proko. She later moved to Worcester as a child with her family. She was a graduate of the former Commerce High School in Worcester.
Helen worked for forty years with her brothers at Flowerland in Worcester, her family's business. She retired in 1984 when the business was sold. To keep busy, she found several part-time jobs after her retirement.
Helen was a member of St. Mary's Albanian Orthodox Church, the Friends of Hope Cemetery and the Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts.
She was an avid reader and frequent walker.
Helen leaves two sisters, Tefta Sotir of Bridgeport, Ct., and Margaret A. Athanas of Shrewsbury; and many nephews and nieces including Paula Litscher and Henry S. Proko, who looked after Helen in recent years, in addition to several grand nieces and grand nephews.
Helen was predeceased by her brothers Paul, Steven and George Proko, with whom she had worked, and her brothers Peter, James, Henry and Christy.Proko.
There are calling hours Tuesday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to Noon at St. Mary's Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury St., Worcester. The funeral service will follow at Noon in the church. Burial will be at Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to St. Mary's Church.
The Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.
