Aldina Alinovi Obituary
Sr. Aldina Alinovi, RSM

WORCESTER - Sister Aldina Alinovi, R.S.M. a Sister of Mercy for 71 years, died on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, her 90th birthday, at the Willows Health Care Center in Worcester, Massachusetts. She was born in Rutland, MA, the daughter of Petro and Dina (Sartori) Alinovi, both natives of Comune di Solignano Provencia, Parma, Italy. Sr. Aldina was educated in the Rutland Elementary and High Schools and entered the Sisters of Mercy on March 25, 1946. She was also known by her adopted religious name, Sister Mary Francesca.

Early in her religious life Sr. Aldina cared for the young orphans at Nazareth Home for Boys, followed by her work as assistant sacristan at St. Paul Church (now the Diocesan Cathedral).

At the Convents in Christ the King Parish in Worcester and St. Aloysius Parish in Gilbertville Sr. Aldina honed her skills as the cook. In these parishes, and in others, as well, she also served as an instructor in Religious Education.

Recognizing Sr. Aldina's extraordinary gifts in the kitchen, she participated in Food Service workshops in St. Louis and in classes held at Stonehill College in Easton, MA, and was then assigned as the Director of Food Service at the Sisters of Mercy Motherhouse at 46 High Street and at 101 Barry Road, a role she brilliantly carried out as a true ministry for over 43 years. She was gratefully recognized as the minister of hospitality to her Sisters, the employees at the Motherhouse, and to all who were guests in the convent dining room. Guests rarely left the convent without freshly baked breads, rolls, cookies and other delicacies!

Sister Aldina leaves her Religious Community, the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, as well as several nieces and nephews, including Susan Alinovi, Diane Alinovi, Peter Alinovi, Jane Alinovi and Brenda Claim. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Dina Alinovi, her brothers Ugo and Atillio and her sisters, Irma and Rena.

Calling hours at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster Street, Worcester, MA are Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm and on Friday, October 20, 2017 for one hour in the church before the 10:00 am Funeral Mass at Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street, Worcester, MA. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Leicester, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas Retirement Fund, 515 Montgomery Avenue, Merion, PA 19066.
