Marie Waskevich Obituary
Marie Waskevich, 65

SPENCER - Marie Waskevich, 65, of Spencer, died peacefully Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the St. Francis Home, Worcester.

She leaves her son Michael B. Dyer, his wife Kate, and their children Patrick, Riley, Cameron, Bruce, Max and William of Storrs, Conn.; three sisters, Loretta M. Kuizinas Carpenter and her husband Donald Carpenter of Pompano Beach, Fla., Susan L. Anderson and her husband Norman of Worcester, Denise J. Adams and her husband Atty. Peter J. Adams of Spencer; a brother Daniel J. Waskevich and his wife Lisa of Leicester; and many nieces and nephews. She also left a dedicated friend, Nancy Stone, who faithfully cared for her throughout her final days. She was predeceased by her brother Albin L. Waskevich and her nephew Ryan Kuizinas.

Marie was born in Worcester, daughter of Albin D. Waskevich and Loretta N. (Mitchell) Waskevich-Groleau. She was a graduate of Burncoat Sr. High School and Worcester State College. She earned a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology at Assumption College.

Marie worked for the UMass-Memorial Healthcare System at its Hahnemann campus. She managed the credentialing of the medical and nursing staffs at Hahnemann. She retired in January of this year.

Marie was a free spirit who stood up for what she believed in, never backing down. She was a strong woman. She was kind and generous. She loved animals, from her cats and dogs to the turtles nesting in her front yard. She had a special fondness for the care and treatment of elephants.

Marie loved nature…the mountains…walking through the woods with her dogs…and the ocean was always calling her name. Besides being home with her pets, the ocean was her favorite place to be. She enjoyed collecting little rocks, stones and seashells.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 18, at 2 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 1070 Pleasant St., Worcester. The Rev. Robert Jackson will officiate. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Big Hair Animal Rescue, 39 Fairview Park Road, Sturbridge, MA 01566, or the First Congregational Church Memorial Fund.

The Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.
