In Honor Of Rita Lee
I have lost more than a beloved friend. I have lost an inspiration. She would rather light candles than curse the darkness, and her glow has warmed the world.
I honor a woman who was the epitome of Southern Hospitality—a woman who knew how to show unconditional love and bring out the good in everyone.
I remember Rita Lee—a woman of strong character and conviction. A woman who will truly be missed.

The first time we met in person, about 30 years ago, she was everything I envisioned her to be—loving, kind, generous, compassionate, caring, and simply remarkable! She had a beauty that shined from the inside out. And I remember feeling very welcome.

Whenever I was around her she enlightened me with her stories and laughter, thru sparkling black eyes and a beautiful smile offering  a wealth of wisdom to ponder. Her laughter would always brighten up the room.  All the blood, sweat, and tears she shed. Simply because she cared so gracious from her heart. Always giving both of herself and her resources and never expecting anything in return.

But, of all her advice and lessons learned, there is several that stick out the most. Not because they were brilliant, but because they came completely from her heart.

The day she welcomed me into her life was the day that I became her friend. It was the day I learned what unconditional love truly was.
It was the day that she accepted me into her life without reservations. I didn't have to prove myself. I didn't have to earn her trust. I didn't have to apologize for my mistakes in life. I simply had to be me—flaws and all.
Most interesting point is the very different stages of life. Beginning vs end. It is my belief, or hope, or perhaps delusion that my friend would last me many more years to come. But the delusion can't go that far. My heart is weighted heavy and eyes tear filled. I will truly miss my dear friend.
