Dr. Lansdon B. Robbins, II
Nashville, TN - Dr. Lansdon B. Robbins, II, 86, of Nashville, Tennessee, formerly of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away Monday, April 5, 2021, at his home.
Born in Henderson, Kentucky, on April 12, 1934, Lanny joined the First Baptist Church in Henderson at age 10 and graduated from Barret Manual Training High School, where he was an outstanding basketball player, and was elected to the Henderson County Sports Hall of Fame. Upon graduating Vanderbilt University, he served active duty in the U.S. Navy for two years. He graduated from the U.S. Naval School of Justice, New Port, Rhode Island, and served at the Naval Air Facility in Weeksville, North Carolina, and the Harbor Defense Unit, Little Creek Virginia. He graduated from Vanderbilt Medical School in 1962 and married the love of his life, Elizabeth Anne Setzer, from Memphis, Tennessee. They moved to Lexington, Kentucky, where he completed a surgical internship at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. He participated in the delivery of the first child born at the UK Medical Center on June 17, 1963. After completing a five year surgical residency at Vanderbilt University, he practiced general, vascular, and thoracic surgery in Nashville for more than 30 years. Lanny was a former member of the American and Southern Medical Associations and the Nashville Surgical Society. For many years, Lanny was a supporter of Vanderbilt Athletics, University of Kentucky Athletics, and the Tennessee Titans. Lanny enjoyed golf and was a longtime member of Hillwood Country Club. He was an avid quail hunter and fond of his English Setter bird dogs. He was elected Kentucky Colonel in 1995 and made Life Master playing duplicate bridge. He enjoyed many visits with his three children and eight grandchildren.
Dr. Robbins was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Finley H. and Irma W. Robbins, and his sister, Yvonne Robbins Lee.
He is survived by his devoted, loving, and caring wife of over 58 years, Anne Setzer Robbins; three children, Elizabeth Robbins Hawkins (Bill), Lansdon B. Robbins, III (Diana), and John F. Robbins (Jae); and eight grandchildren, Caroline Elizabeth Hawkins, Charles W. Hawkins IV, Eliza Grace Hawkins, Lansdon B. Robbins, IV, Westin Alexander Robbins, Kendall Grayson Robbins, Thomas Finley Robbins, and Samuel Boone Robbins.
Graveside services and burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson, Kentucky. The Reverend Alan Chamness will officiate.
