Nashville, TN

On Saturday, May 14, 2016 our precious child, born on September 19, 1996, returned to heaven and is at peace with God. Katy's passion for sports, nature, and most of all horses gave us the memories we will cherish for the rest of our lives. She gave unconditional love and great laughter to everyone.

Katy's bright future was lost to a life of drug addiction, starting at the age of 15. The epidemic state of drug addiction is the country's biggest problem at this time, rapidly taking the lives of our children.

Katy will be missed by everyone, especially her parents and brother. She leaves her parents, Bruce and Betty Mason; brother, Houston Wayland; grandfather, Samuel T. Drake, Sr. and extended family.

To honor Katy's life, services will be held at St. George's Episcopal Church on Friday, May 20th. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saddle Up Nashville, Katy Mason Memorial, www.saddleupnashville.org or Our Little Roses Foreign Mission Society, P.O. Box 530947, Miami Shores, FL, 33153-0947.

An online guestbook is available at AustinFuneralService.com. (615)377-0775.

I just read, with tears in my eyes, the story you shared about your precious daughter in the Tennessean. I am so sorry for your loss. But I am thankful that you shared her story in the hopes of helping others, both with addiction and other parents. Sincerely, Tracey Casteel

Will be keeping your family in my thoughts! I knew Katy in middle school and played soccer with her. She was such a leader on our team, so sad to hear the news of her passing. Glad she is at peace, and out of suffering.

I wish I could be there in Nashville to put my arms around you, cousin Betty. You, Bruce, Houston, & Uncle Sam are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Love you.

I cannot imagine the pain you are suffering, nor the loss you feel. I pray for peace for all of you and for your precious daughter who has found the peace that passes all understanding. Thank you for making space in your pain and in your devastation to communicate the power of drug addiction. You must be remarkable people to reach out to others even as you reach within, grappling with the magnitude of your loss. From one horse girl's mama to another, I hold you in my heart.

She is finally at peace and embraced by His almighty arms. Thank you for being brutely and painfully honest about your daughters struggles. I am sure the disease took your whole family hostage. May she rest in peace now and wish you and your love ones healing.. Godspeed
