I met Mike's father before I met Mike. As a young social worker, I was fortunate to learn about resources from both of them. As years went on I realized I witnessed faith, compassion, wit, commitment, intelligence, wisdom and friendship. It's been over 40 years since those early days and I am so grateful that I knew Mike.

Dear Lord, my God. I thank you for blessing me with your most humble servant, Mike Servais. Mike, you were my dearest and most precious friend of forty three years now. Always there, always serving, your selflessness had no boundaries. You were without doubt the most Christ like man I ever met. I now know, you have seen God! Words cannot express my gratitude for you.
Mark 4:20 "Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop-thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown."
My dear friend, your bounty was immeasurable and you are reaping your rewards in heaven now. I'll see you upstairs and can already hear your chuckle of get in here! With so much love, Cynthia Anthony Nguyen

Every conversation, meeting or gathering of any sort, resulted in great memories of Mike Servais. Mike loved to tell stories about people helped by the Salvation Army. He simply enjoyed helping people. He found ways to meet the needs of the needy...no matter how tough or difficult their situation.
He will be sorely missed by everyone he encountered...the homeless or those at the top of the social ladder.
Thanks, Mike, for making Nashville an even better place to live.
I know thousands Mike helped on this earth met him at heaven's game...welcoming him to his eternal home.

I did not know Mike, but I do know that he was a blessing and touched many lives. There is an old gospel song that says:

May the works I've done speak for me.
When I'm resting in my grave,
there's nothing to be said;
May the works the works I've done, Speak for me.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. May God grant you peach, comfort, and strength.

Good On Ya Mike! Your servant's heart in your close relationship with Christ and following his direction truly changed the world for so many in our community.

But what I will remember is the laughter and the smiles during our times together.

Peace, Love, Music, and Blessings to your and your family.

My condolences to your family. Mike was such an inspiration to everyone he met. I have never met his equal since our introduction 37 years ago. As with so many others, Mike came into my life when I was at my lowest, and he helped lift me from my despair. I am blessed to have known him.

I am so glad that I had the opportunity to meet and come to know Mike. He was one of finest people I've encountered in my life. I hope the family and his vast number of friends will be comforted during this time of sorrow by the memory of one of Mike's kind (and typically funny) words or deeds.

Mike and Jo
We met Mike Servais around 2006 to make a money donation for recovery of the Hurricane Katrina devastation. That is when we first witnessed the Mike Servais "zin armtwist." Surprisingly, he had us working at the Municipal Auditorium within a day coordinating collections and the multiple medical agencies of Nashville that did so much during that period of recovery. It was a week of challenge that I will never forget. We got to where we always knew when Mike's armtwist was coming and knew we wouldn't regret it.

My Christmas bell ringing changed after that. We did all manner of assignments and videos he asked us do until he retired from the Salvation Army a few years ago. I even helped him get out of an unexpected scrape when I became an employee of the Salvation Army one Christmas.

We met his wife Jo during that period. I think in many respects, she is the biggest blessing he ever received during his all too brief lifetime. She has a special set of wings waiting for her in Heaven.

As I have come to realize, that was a period of friendship that will never be repeated in my lifetime. Mike came into our lives and took up residence as a brother. We didn't even have to get to know each other. It was one of those unions where you knew instantly that it was meant to be, even though we lived separate lives and had different belief systems. I guess you could say it was a spiritual bond built in another place free from prejudice or judgement.

We'll be joining you soon enough, Mike (and Jo). But, until that time, we will miss your presence here on earth. Rest in Peace my friend.
