I was privileged to spend a couple of afternoons with Mr. Kirkpatrick as he shared his life story with me. His was most definitely a life well lived, and I will remember our time together with great fondness.

It looks as if Mr. Kirkpatrick lived a wonderful life, and I know you will miss him. You don't know me, but I am a genealogist; and Mr. Kirkpatrick was my second cousin. I saw the obituary today and recognized his father's name. My paternal grandmother was Anneatta Louise Kirkpatrick, the sister of Mr. Kirkpatrick's grandfather Joseph Moss Kirkpatrick. In fact, my father, William Joseph Binkley, was named for Joseph Moss. I would be happy to share family information if you are interested. My email is [email protected].

Mr Kirkpatrick was a very kind man. I'm very grateful to have met him. I loved to hear the stories
he shared with me.

He was a Seabee in the Solomons (South Pacific) campaign in WW2 and came to know other young men of the times in Munda in the New Georgia group. The Marines, with some New Zealanders and Tongan soldiers drove thye enemy off the island where they had begun building an airstrip. The Seabees completed the strip and it was used to launch attacks on the enemy going northward. He is one of the unsung heroes of WW2, but he made contact with some descendents of his Munda friends and recounted his experiences to us. We will remember his stories and pass them on.
