I still remember my elder cousin brother. Every time we go past a ceramic or glass museum I think he would have loved spending a day there on the exhibits.

Pronobda was a wonderful dada and friend to us, Sreemati and Ujjal Mukherjee. He and Gail were so tuned to each other! He and Gail came to our Ithaca home a number of times and though they were urgent about driving home to Corning before the evening darkened, Pronobda sat on and on, with the adda and food, and Gail, patient, waiting for him to say that it was time to go home. His shining eyes, thick silver mane, and smile lifting up his face..... we will never forget. Rest in peace, Pronobda!

Gail,
I'm so sorry to hear about Pro's passing. I will surely miss his sense of humor, his dignity, and my arguments with him. He was one of the first people I got to know when I came to Corning. Doris Evans introduced us. It is a sad day for us old guys at Sullivan Park.

Sixty years ago five boys stepping into youth and Nehru Hall of IIT Kharagpur, became birds of a feather. With boyish pomposity called themselves SPARK, acronym of first letter of their names, Pronob providing the P. Others being Sanjoy, Ravi and Kailash.
Memories - four years of staying in adjoining rooms, being together at all meals, sharing everything that young men share including showers when getting late for class, studying through nights before exams, non-stop bridge sessions spanning weekends, cycling to the city for late night movies, paratha and chicken birthday dinners, just the five of us, under open skies outside a ramshackle joint in the woods, pride on his election as General Secretary of the student body, sharing joy when he got assistantship in Georgia Tech .
Pronob was nicknamed ‘capsule’ for his boundless energy in a small frame. Always game for youthful pranks, holding forth in any discussion under the sun – intellectual or otherwise.
Compulsions of careers geographically separated us, but in the evening of our lives, was lucky to have been able to spend a day or two together a few times. Friendships of those years need neither nurturing nor renewing, you just resume. Added bonus was knowing Gail, her serene strength and devotion in these difficult years has been awe inspiring.
God’s Grace that he went peacefully and it is He who will look after him.
As we would say in IIT, when we parted for going home for vacations, ‘So long Pronob’.

I have known Pronob since our graduate student days at Northwestern. He was a jolly fellow and attracted many friends. He was very good scientist e exemplified by his work at Corning and at Northwestern and University of New Castle. Pronob and I shared our interests in Bengali music and he remained a fan of Cricket an Indian pastime. I share the grief of his wife Gail who became a god friend of my wife and I. Jaideep and Neil were very dear to him and he spent countless hours talking and worrying about them to me. Our condolence to the family. I lost a great friend. May he rest in peace.
