Shelton James "Big Joe" "Mr. A" Alexander

LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Shelton James "Big Joe" "Mr. A" Alexander, 70, who died January 25, 2012 surrounded by family and friends.

Entombment will be in Immaculate Heart of Mary Mausoleum.

Shelton was a graduate of Paul Breaux High School Class of '62' and served in the United States Air Force for four years. He was enrolled in the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's Veterans Upward Bound Program. He was a retiree of the Lafayette Parish School System. Shelton was an active member of the church and had a genuine concern for the McComb/Veazey Community.

Shelton is survived by his wife of 43 years, Betty Alexander of Lafayette; one daughter, Shelly Alexander of Lafayette; one granddaughter, Brittany Noel; one grandson, Malachi Alexander; one brother, Milton (Mary Helen) Alexander of Lafayette; one sister, Mildred Hudson Shaw of Houston, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Shelton was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Isaac; his father, Steven Alexander; his mother, Odile Alexander Bernard; his step-father, Joseph Bernard and one sister, Beatrice Benjamin.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Syrie Funeral Home from 7 a.m. until time of service.
