Joseph "J.D." Dugas

LAFAYETTE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 8, 2014 in the Delhomme Funeral Home Chapel of the Flowers for Joseph "J.D." Dugas, 85, who passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 11:48 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.

Reverend Brian Taylor, Pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church will be Celebrant of the Mass.

Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

"J.D.", a resident of Lafayette, LA was the son of the late Alcee Dugas and the former Leontine Robin.

"J.D." served his country during W.W. II having served in the U.S. Air Force, while in the service he played as a Fullback on the Air Force Football Team. He received the W.W. II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal in Japan. After his return from the War he went to worked for Southern Pacific Transport and retired after many years of service.

He is survived by his son, Harvey J. Dugas; his brother, Ernest Dugas and his wife Norma; his adopted daughter Yvonne K. Himel and her husband Joseph and children, Ashley Fontenot and her husband Christopher, Jerrett Guidry; and three grandchildren, Kagen, Kailley and Kade Fontenot.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of forty three years Martha Girouard Dugas, his three sisters, Bernice D. Simoneaux, Anna Mae D. Castille and Mable D. Chiasson and his three brothers, Cleveland Dugas, A.B. Dugas and John Dugas.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm on Wednesday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue Thursday, May 8, 2014 from 9:00 am until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be Harvey Dugas, Jerrett Guidry, Joseph Himel, Jr., Bobby Knott, Allen Chiasson, Ernest Dugas and Brett Brinkman.
