Carencro - Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 14, 2021 at a 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Lucille Sonnier, age 89, the former Lucille Landry, who passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Opelousas.

Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. The Rev. Bill Melancon, pastor of St. Rita Catholic Church, will officiate at the services.

Musical selections will be provided by her very special life-long friends Charlotte Jagneaux accompanied by Phyllis Simar on the organ. The songs will be Amazing Grace, The Lord Is My Shephard, Hail Mary, Gentle Woman, One Bread, One Body, Noble et Sainte Anne, Song of Farewell, and How Great Thou Art.

Mrs. Sonnier was a native of Broussard and a resident of Carencro since 1950. In her younger years, she was a clerk at the business office at Montgomery Ward and later was an assistant teacher of Lafayette Middle School, NP Moss and Northside High School. She was the co-owner of Bears Den and Full Service Cleaners. A devout Catholic, she was a parishioner of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church and in 1984 was one of the founding members of the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. She was also a member of the Bonne Mort Society, St. Anne Society, Sacred Heart League, and was a Charter Member of Krewe of Karencro Mardi Gras Association.

Lucille was the epitome of a Christian soldier-always demonstrating her love for God and for family. Her constant smile, determination for all that is good and encouragement to family and the students she taught, will serve as an example to all. She carried her cross on earth and has earned her crown in heaven.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Sonnier and his wife, Alina, of Many and Terry Sonnier and his wife, Penny, of Carencro; two daughters, Connie Roy and her husband, Rudy, of Carencro and Janet Guidry of Breaux Bridge; eleven grandchildren, Wade Sonnier and his wife, Mindy, Tracey Scholz and her husband, Joel, Tyler Sonnier and his wife, Carolyn, Joshua Sonnier and his wife, April, Jesse Sonnier, Jacob Sonnier, Brandy Potier and her husband, Toby, Eric Roy and his wife, Cyndal, Tara Arnaud and her husband, Drew, Allie Vitte and her husband, Mory, and Emmy Guidry; three half-sisters, Linda, Charlene and Marie; one half-brother, Carl; her very special sisters-in-law, Rita Landry and Gloria Romero; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of seventy years, Shelton Sonnier; one son, Glenn Sonnier; one precious great grandson, Andrew Arnaud, IV; her parents, Drozin Landry and the former Amelia Guilbeau; four brothers, Alton Landry, Clarence Landry, Lenis Landry and Philias "Phil" Landry; and one sister, Cecile Daigle.

A rosary will be prayed at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home by the St. Anne Society.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to her caregivers, especially Emmy Guidry, Mela Gallagher, and the staff of Senior Helpers and the PACE program (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly sponsored by the Franciscan Missionaries of our Lady of Lourdes Health System) for their incredible care and compassion. A very heartfelt thank you to each of her children and their spouses for nearly 4 years of heartfelt care.

Memorial contributions in the name of Lucille Sonnier may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Pallbearers will be Terry Sonnier, Michael Sonnier, Jesse Sonnier, Wade Sonnier, Mory Vitte, Eric Roy, Drew Arnaud, Toby Potier, Rudy Roy, and Scottie Savoie. Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Sonnier, Donald Landry, Edward Cormier, Carrol Thomas, Norman Faulk, Don Stemmans, Raymond Mouton, Darrel Clavelle, Forrest Duhon
