LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at a 1:00 PM Service at Asbury United Methodist Church for Peggy Jean "MiMi" Hunt, age 88, who died on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.

Interment will be in Fountain Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Lafayette.

Reverend Richard Humphries, Pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church, will conduct the funeral services. Special music will be performed by Dr. Lee Cooke.

Survivors include her two daughters, Judy Hunt McRaney and Jenny Dronet and her husband David; her favorite son, Joe D. Hunt; her grandchildren, Becky Dronet Lege and her husband Brandon, Holly Dronet Hagle and her husband John, David McRaney and his wife Jennifer, Patrick McRaney and his wife Candace, and Shelby Hunt and her wife Amanda; and her great grandchildren, Adoree, Evan, Kiersten, Lauren Grace, Ethan Hunt, Leah, Rosa Claire, Anna Kate, Jenna Beth Jean, and Sara Ellen; and her sister in law, Betty June Hunt.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Merle D. Hunt; her parents, Toni Byron Ray and Clara Clark Ray; and her infant son David Byron Hunt; and her beloved dachshund Princess.

A native of Grand Saline, Texas and a Lafayette resident for 48 years, Peggy had a lifelong interest in early childhood education. She began a preschool in the basement of her home while living in Grand Isle, La. She continued this passion by teaching 3 years olds at Asbury Day School for many years after moving to Lafayette. Peggy spent 48 years as a faithful and devoted member of Asbury United Methodist Church. There she taught Sunday school, was active in United Methodist Women with special interest in the Clara Ray Circle, named for her own mother, and worked tirelessly along side many special ladies at the Needy Nook providing clothing and school uniforms for needy children in the community. Peggy loved reading, playing Bridge, and enjoyed loving her furry four legged family members. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved our special MiMi.

Pallbearers will be David, Patrick and Evan McRaney, Brandon and Ethan Lege, and John Hagle.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE location on Monday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until time of service.

Memorial contributions can be made in Peggy Hunt's name to her beloved church, Asbury United Methodist Church, 101 Live Oak Blvd, Lafayette, La. 70503.
