Bette Goss Obituary
Bette Marie Beeson Goss

LAFAYETTE - Bette Marie Beeson Goss, a resident of Lafayette, La passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends on July 4, 2014, Independence Day. She was predeceased by her husband Charles Goss and her parents Wesley Beeson and Willie Esther Beeson as well as a brother and sister. She left five children, Charles Brandt, Patricia Brandt, Ruth Brandt Norris, Harry W Goss and Susan "Baby Sue" Goss all of whom miss her dearly. She had six grand children and six great grandchildren.

Bette attended NTAC , now known as the University of Texas Arlington where she was the bands Drum Majorette, leading the band for the college. She worked for her parents in their restaurant. She married Charles Goss and moved to Lafayette in the 1950's and assisted her husband in running his business, and his trucking company, Ball Marketing. Together they also formed Goss Arabians, and at one time had one of the finest stables in Louisiana. Loving not only her own children, but feeling for others, she and her husband donated and delivered thousands of gallons of fuel oil to a crippled children's hospital in Central, Ohio during a particularly frigid winter. They also donated the proceeds of an auctioned Arabian stallion to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

She was a fierce defender of her husband and children and brooked no criticism of them although never holding back her own judgment of them in private. She was a person of strongly held convictions and yielded little ground. You always knew where Bette stood on any issue.

She involved herself at first in ceramics, opening a business she named Bette's Ceramic Shoppe on Bertrand Dr in Lafayette. Not having been challenged by this, she moved into painting porcelain. She became a master at this art and taught others the fine art of porcelain painting, painting and firing her own creations and leaving behind a wonderful collection of hundreds of collectible and beautiful works of art. Bette traveled around the country teaching and judging porcelain. When she and Charles were building their home, she hand painted the scenes on the sinks in her bathrooms. She was an accomplished gardener and every year produced a fine crop of home grown vegetables and citrus fruits from her many gardens at her home.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Michelle Warden, Cheryl Moses, Tiffany Olivier and Blair Borders, for their loving and compassionate care.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Monday July 7 2014 from 6PM till 8PM and on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 10AM till 1PM. A service will be performed at Delhomme Funeral Home by Brother Gary Funderburk of The Bayou at 1PM. A graveside service will thereafter be performed by Brother Orville Rogers in Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church Cemetery, 1138 Academy Road, Eunice, Louisiana.
