Evelyn Dautriel Melancon Domingue

LAFAYETTE - It is with great sadness that the family and friends of Evelyn Domingue, 94, announces her passing at her home at midnight on Thursday, October 18, 2012.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Genevieve Catholic Church.

The Very Reverend W. Curtis Mallet, JCL, VG will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors for the Mass will be Ms. Audrey Parker and Pat Bernard. Giftbearers will be her granddaughters. Jodi Bollich, organist and soloist, will sing for the services, "Be Not Afraid", "Here I Am Lord", "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "How Great Thou Art". Jeanne Norman will sing "Amazing Grace". Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Evelyn was born in Youngsville, Louisiana on February 20, 1918 to Louis Dautriel and Darsianne Gravouia. She moved to Lafayette when she was 9 years old.

She is survived by her children, Ronald Melancon (Sandra), Gerald Melancon (Darlena) and Jennifer Melancon; seven grandchildren, Timothy Melancon of Thibodeaux, Monique Melancon, Wade Melancon, Shane Melancon of Lafayette, Angela Melancon of New Iberia, Kristine Meinerz Racca and Cathy Meinerz of Lafayette; thirteen great grandchildren; one sister, Rose Marie Deshotels; and several nieces and nephews.

She now joins in Heaven, her parents; her first husband, Moise Melancon, Sr. (father of her children); her second husband, George Louis Domingue; one grandson, Keith Melancon; one great grandson, Robert John Louis Racca; five brothers, Sidney, Lionel, George, Leonard and Harold Dautriel; one sister, Annie Wilkins; and one step-son, Moise Melancon, Jr.

Evelyn was a faithful member of St. Genevieve Catholic Church where she and Louis both served as members of the Altar Society. She participated in many spiritual and social activities, fund raising and cleaning the church. She also was a member of the Camelia Home Demonstration Club, Court Alice Boucher Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Ladies Altar Society, Golden Age Club and Woodmen of the World.

In her younger years, she worked for Hadacol and later became a waitress for several fine restaurants, including Riverside Inn and Toby's Oak Grove. Evelyn loved everyone and never met a stranger. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Melancon, Shane Melancon, Zachary Melancon, Nicholas Viator, Payton Sisiegas, Kyle Melancon, Landon Melancon and Konner Melancon. Honorary pallbearers will be Wade Melancon, Freddie Deshotels, Danny Guidry and Charlie Williams.

A Rosary will be recited on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location.

The family requests that visitation be observed on Friday from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM and will continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until time of services.

The family would like to give special thanks to Evelyn's niece, Donna Landry, who helped daily with her care and niece, Lucy Bourgeois. The family would also like to thank the 6th floor nurses, staff and Doctors' at Lafayette General Medical Center, who attended to Evelyn.
