Anthony "Buddy" Joseph Amoroso IV, a devoted husband, and loving father and grandfather, passed away on the morning of Saturday, June 30 in St. Francisville, Louisiana. He was 61, and a resident and native of Baton Rouge. Visitations will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA from 5:00 to 9:00 on Thursday, July 5, and from 10:00 to 1:00 on Friday, July 6. A graveside service for the family, and a private funeral will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church, where Buddy was a member and a deacon. A public memorial for the city will be announced at a later date. Buddy was born to Anthony and Patricia Amoroso on December 5, 1956. He attended Broadmoor High School, and was a graduate of Oral Roberts University. He was a small business owner in Baton Rouge, and worked for the family business, Prime Properties. Buddy was the definition of a public servant. He was a founding member and co-chair of Baton Rouge Tax Busters. Prior to his two terms representing District 8 on the Metropolitan Council, he served as a board member of the East Baton Rouge Airport Commission, the Alcohol Beverage Control Board, as Chairman of the Baton Rouge Apartment Association, and as President of the Apartment Association of Louisiana. When he first ran for District 8, he did so unopposed, and when he ran for re-election, he received 66% of the vote in a three-person primary. He was well loved as a councilman, mostly due to his ability to bridge sides together for common sense solutions. He sought government efficiency through legislation creating such committees as the Smart City Committee. He sought to use technology to improve traffic, permitting, and even law enforcement-being one of the biggest advocates of body cameras. Buddy was currently working towards a comprehensive reform of the Flood Plain Development Code in addition to many other ways to better his beloved home town. He truly had a heart for this city and a desire to do what he thought would best serve the people of Baton Rouge. Buddy is preceded in death by his father, Anthony Joseph Amoroso III. Buddy is survived by his wife of 37 years, Denise Waters Amoroso; a son, Anthony Joseph Amoroso V; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Thaddeaus Swart, Michal Ann and Joshua Traina; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Vickie and Harold Keith, JoAnn and Greg Alford, Lori and David Planchard, Mary Pat and Trent Thevenot; his mother, Patricia Hidalgo Amoroso; and five grandchildren, Lilla Charlotte Traina, Josie Abigail Traina, Joseph Anthony Traina, and Asher Leland McCoy Swart, as well as many nieces, and nephews. Pallbearers will be Anthony Joseph Amoroso V, Joshua Traina, Thaddeaus Swart, Nathan Smith, Ryan Keith, Braden Keith, Kyle Planchard, John Paul Thevenot, Jacob Thevenot, and J Hudson. My condolences to Buddy's family. He was a pleasure to ride with and I will always remember the occasion when his bike broke it's chain and Tom Clement and I refused to continue riding without him - Ken Spoto

Buddy lived a Godly life, it was God, Family and Country. He was passionate in all his endeavors and he was truly blessed of God. I look forward to seeing you again my dear cousin. I am so proud of all that you have accomplished, and above all I wish I could have been there when you were told "Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord". I will see you in the morning....

Denise, JoAnn, Patsy and Family - Melanie and I were shocked and saddened to hear the tragic news. Please know that our prayers extend to you and your family at this time of loss. Buddy had a genuine concern for people and a great sense of humor. My first memory of Buddy was on a mid-seventies trip to Florida on an old school bus driven by Murray Harmon-endless fun, great memories. Until we see him again, may the peace of God guard your hearts and mind in Christ Jesus.

So sorry to read of your loss. Patrick and I both remember coming to your house and having delicious homemade Chicken Pot Pie to fellowship together with our children. We were both baptized in the Amoroso pool. I remember when you and I shared carpool so our children could attend summer camp at the Baton Rouge Zoo. Buddy was a blessed man with a strong love for God. We know he is rejoicing at the feet of Jesus now and one day we will join him. Psalm 116:15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.

To the Amoroso families,as a former employee of Prime Properties in Baton Rouge I can attest to the strength of Buddy' convictions of Faith in God and service to his fellow mankind. He was extremely determined to stand his ground on every matter that he chose to pursue. He knew his purpose in this lifetime and was not afraid to tell you about it. Peace, honor and justice and the love of God and country and his family meant everything to Buddy. May he rest in peace. I was always treated like family while working with the Amoroso family. Good people. I still miss them all.

We join those who knew and loved Buddy Amoroso as we lift up the Amoroso family and friends in prayer as they say goodbye to their beloved husband, father, Councilman and dear friend. I have many fond memories of a young, eager Buddy who was on fire for Jesus (way back in the '70s). Buddy's passion for Christ, his devotion to his family and his dedication to his constituents will never be forgotten. Buddy Amoroso's legacy of Faith, Family and Public Service will live in our hearts ♥ always.
