Dr. Raghavendra Rao Narra, a longtime resident of Baton Rouge and a true patriarch to his family and friends, locally and abroad in India, passed away on June 30, 2015. Dr. Narra was firmly devoted to his family and enjoyed nothing more than a family vacation. It encompassed the things he held most dear - being surrounded by nature, creating new stories to tell for years to come, but most of all, enjoying quality time with his loved ones. But his family did not end with his blood relations - whether to his friends, his neighbors or a new acquaintance, Dr. Narra was forever "Mr. Fix-it". He didn't just fix tangible things, though he undoubtedly did more than his fair share. He extended his trust, care and fidelity to ensure the emotional and physical well-being of everyone around him. His endless optimism and genuine compassion enriched each community he touched. For all this and more, he is truly irreplaceable and will be eternally missed. Born in Elamarru, Andhra Pradesh, India, Dr. Narra studied medicine at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum, Karnataka (class of 1973) and trained in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in New York. Dr. Narra started Narra & Associates in Gonzales in 1981. Through his tireless dedication to patient care and to his staff, he inspired loyalty and confidence in the community. With his partners, he grew the Internal Medicine practice into what is now known as St. Elizabeth Physicians serving Ascension Parish. He was beloved by peers, staff, and patients alike. He is preceded in death by his father, N.S.R. Anjaneya Choudary. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Anjani Narra, his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. & Mrs. Pavan and Tina Narra, Esq., grandson, Dekkan Narra, soon-to-arrive granddaughter, daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Swathi Narra, Esq. and Dr. Jay Miller, mother, Videhi Rathnam, sister, Dr. Ammaji Narra, and brothers, Mr. Krishna Rao Narra, B.E., Dr. Sam Narra, Dr. Kishore Narra and their families. Public visitation will be held on July 5, 2015 from 9 to 11am at Rabenhorst East (11000 Florida Blvd.), followed by services at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in memory of Dr. Raghavendra Rao Narra to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org or 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 304, Chicago, IL 60611.

I just found out of Dr. Narra leaving us. I was so shocked and in tears when confirming it with the restaurant owner I was proposing to do work for. In meeting him and working on his cabinets, and walls, he would stop me and ask me to have tea with him often as we talked, he became quickly a friend, a doctor, and confidant. We often talked of his family and much about Swathi. He had one of the most soft spoken kind, loving spirit, of almost any person I have ever know. I always felt as if I were in God.s company, safe, loved, and cared for, while in his company. He was a mild mannered, humble, and great man. I do seriously miss him, and find myself in grief, for him. I asked, how is his wife, and is Swathi, Ok? His heart was always concerned with Swathi and his wife and family,
definitely. I am truly saddened as he touched me, so deep in such a short time.

Tears flow freely as I read the beautiful words of those who remember Dr. Narra so fondly. It is clear that he touched many lives as husband, father, Doctor, teacher, and friend. As a pharmaceutical representative who had the pleasure of calling on him for many years, I can truly say that he was a blessing to me. Dr. Narra always had a smile on, and welcomed me EVERY time I went to see him. Dr. Anjani, please know that my prayers are with you and your family. You were also such an inspiration to me, as I had the joy of calling on both of you throughout the years. His legacy will remain in the hearts of the many he inspired, healed, and befriended. Thank you, Lord, for the honor of knowing Dr. Narra!!

He will live on in every memory, with every story that is filled with laughter and tears. He has left the world with much love. That love will be shared with others. How do you put into words what Dr. Narra means to me? Guess I will start by Thanking his family for sharing such a wonderful man with us day after day 8-5, well in his case sometimes later than 5.
I started my nursing career with him in 1996, I had no idea what he was talking about when he started saying I need a CBC,SMAC,TSH, LIPIDS, but with his guidance I soon learned what that was and so, so much more. If you were eager to learn, he was eager to teach. There is no doubt that I would not be the nurse that I am today without him. On a personal level, he always listened, always gave advice, and would always ask with a huge smile "How are your girls doing". He truly cared about those that he came in contact with. I have lots of terrific memories of him, from him yelling "I need a fill up" or enjoying the times that we all had after hours. Those were truly the best years of my career. We were a family, we laughed together, spent time together now we will grieve together. I will cherish those memories and his wisdom for the rest of my life. See you on the other side Doc, until we meet again! Love always, your favorite nurse- Dawn
