Bessie Bell Hood, 95, of Brighton, passed away Dec. 31. She was born Sept. 19, 1923, in Arcadia, Kansas, to Joseph Aaron and Maude Elizabeth (Buchanan) Harris. Bessie graduated from Arcadia High School in 1941.
Bessie married Ervin Lee Hood June 11, 1945, in Arcadia. Bessie passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family and friends.
She had an adventurous and loving soul. She was always smiling and had a wonderful and playful sense of humor. Bessie enjoyed racing her horses, traveling, hiking, gardening, going out to eat and volunteering for many local organizations and her church.
She adored her children, grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She spent as much of her time as she could participating in her family's lives and their actives. She had a huge heart and was everyone's Gramma and friend.
Bessie always saw the good in every person and situation. She was a bright light to all who knew her. She will be forever missed by those fortunate enough to have known and loved her.
Survivors include her sister, Betty Mitchell; children, Gene (Kat) Hood and Jim (Teresa) Hood; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Her parents; her husband; 12 siblings; children, Bruce, Mark and Lynne; and two grandchildren preceded her in death.
A memorial service was Jan. 14 at Tabor Rice Funeral Home of Brighton, which handled the arrangements. A reception followed at the Alli Event Center of Brighton.
