Dean Wittmus was born in Spencer, Nebraska, May 27 1933, to Frank and Margaret (Nelson) Wittmus and graduated from Burke, South Dakota, High School in 1952. Dean married Edith (Peggy) Ticknor Oct. 12, 1952, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy for four years.
In 1956, Dean entered barber school in Denver and, upon completion, bought a shop in Fort Lupton in 1959 and continued in business in the same location for 56 years before retiring in 2014.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Rick (Denise), of Arizona, Terry (Jeri Ann), of Westminster, and Scott, of Fort Lupton; a daughter, Sherrill (Craig) Simmonds, of Broomfield; one sister, Evon Nolz, of Fremont, Nebraska; one granddaughter; six grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation was at Erlinger Funeral Home in Fort Lupton Feb. 23. A celebration of life program was Feb. 24 at the VFW hall in Fort Lupton.
Burial was at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
