Walter Scott
Walter Scott passed away on Thursday March 21, 2013, while in the Pacific Care Nursing facility in Salinas.
Walter was born November 25, 1926 to the family of David Scott and Effie May (Bromm) Scott in Milliken, Colorado. He was the youngest child of a large family engaged in farming. Walter was a proud Irishman. His Father, David, was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, in 1874. Walter served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Navy's Armed Guard, assigned to Merchant Marine ships. After the war, he was discharged on the West Coast and traveled to King City California where he had friends who had moved from Colorado and a job opportunity. In King City, he met and married Jackie Marie Taylor in 1946. He worked in farming for several years and eventually became a Reserve and then Regular Police Officer for the City of Greenfield.
In 1954 he was hired as a Monterey County Deputy Sheriff and eventually rose to the rank of Captain, retiring in 1981. After leaving the Sheriff's Department, he was hired as the Head of Security for Carmel Valley Ranch, where he served from 1981 to 1994.
He was married to Jackie Scott for 53 years. She passed away in 1999. They had one child, Ron, in 1947.
Walter married a second time in 2002 to Del Carrillo. Del Scott passed away in 2011 and she was survived by a large family from her first marriage.
Walter was very active during his life. He was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church since 1963 and served as an Elder and Deacon. For years, he worked to support Native American Indian groups and the local homeless population. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 204 of Salinas, the Scottish Rite of San Jose, The Monterey County Peace Officers Association, National Sheriff's Association, Spreckles VFW Post #6849, Greenfield American Legion Post #0639, and the Salinas Elks Lodge where he was active in their Elks Campers program.
He enjoyed many things during his life, particularly fishing, antique clocks and their repair, and traveling in his motorhome with friends from the Elks Campers.
Walter was preceded in death by all his brothers and sisters, his first and second wife.
He is survived by his son Ron (Susan) Scott of Livermore, California. His Granddaughter Katy Wade (Daniel) and Great Grandchildren Maggie and Samuel Wade, all of Pleasanton, California. Stepchildren Barbara Bolner, Loretta King, Bertha Babione, Rudy Carrillo, John Carrillo, and numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and his dear friend and companion, Adrian Boyd.

Deepest sympathy to the Scott family and extended family. Those of us with daddies from the Greatest Generation studied them, admired them and learned lessons we still apply, and pray that we live up to the potential they saw in us. Godspeed, Walt.

I am so sorry to read about the passing of Walt. Please accept my condolences. My father, Penn Pihl, a Lt. at the Sheriff's Office was very friendly with Walt and Jackie. He and Jackie used to come up to Arroyo Seco to my parents' cabin and have a really good barbeque. I have such good memories of those get-togethers.
God Bless all of the family and friends.

Walt was a friend and co-worker. We were both in the Sheriff's Department for many years. I vividly remember his calm and professional leadership reprsenting the Sheriff's Office during the farm labor strikes in the Salinas Valley. One of the 'good guys'.
