Luzette "Lu" Watson

Luzette "Lu" Watson, 93, of Salinas, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Windsor Gardens Rehab Center of Salinas. She was born April 13, 1919, in Bowmansville, NY.

Luzette graduated from Lancaster High School in 1937. She was in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943 to 1945 serving at Camp Lejeune in N. Carolina. She was very proud to be one of the first women Marines. She was a founding member of Salinas Valley Community Church and worked for many years at the Western Bible Bookstore in downtown Salinas. She served several times as Master of Ceremonies for the city-wide "Praise Services" held at Sherwood Hall. She brought joy into the lives of everyone she met. She was deeply dedicated to her Lord, her family and to her flag and country.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Art Watson; parents, Marion and Caroline Mayback and two brothers.

Survivors: Daughter, Michelle "Mickey" (Geary) Lyons; son, Arthur "Chip" (Molly) Watson of Pioneer; five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Sylvia "Mayback" Schottke of Oceanside and many nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., at Salinas Valley Community Church, 335 San Juan Grade Road, Salinas, CA 93906.

Memorials: Donations may be sent to Art Watson Leadership Scholarship Fund, made to William Jessup University, 333 Sunset Blvd., Rocklin, CA 95765.
