Catalina Camargo Quiles Obituary
Catalina Camargo Quiles

Salinas - March 11, 1934 - July 26, 2018

Catalina was a wonderful woman that was loved and cherished by her family, friends, and the community. Our "Buita," as she liked to be called by her grandchildren, was born in Panama City, Panama. It was there that she met the love of her life, CSM (Ret. Army) Felix Quiles and married in 1960. After her husband's return from several deployments to Vietnam, the couple and their daughter, Milagros, were stationed in Fort Polk, LA. and later in Germany. Mrs. Quiles thrived in her role as an Army wife and was instrumental in her husband's successful career.

After arriving at Fort Ord, CA, Mrs. Quiles found her life's passion. An accountant by trade, she joined the N. Monterey County Unified School District. Retiring only six years ago, Mrs. Quiles worked 32 years as an aide, Migrant School Advisor, in the Paquete Summer Program, adult English class teacher, and NMCHS Career Counselor. Mrs. Quiles was a selfless and tireless supporter of the migrant community and upper education for all her students. She was an unflagging mentor who was recognized with numerous awards, but none was more special and dear to her than a visit or a hug from a past student. Her students and their parents became family and she was known as a "second mom" to countless individuals.

In her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and mother-in-law, her love was immeasurable. She is survived by her daughter, Milagros Quiles Cooper; the light of her life, her grandchildren Brianna Cooper and Jacob Cooper; son-in-law Timothy Cooper, brother Antonio Camargo, sister Deogracia Camargo, and countless nieces and nephews.

She joins her husband CSM (Ret.) Felix Quiles; parents, Eusebio Camargo and Lucila Copri; brothers Ovidio Camargo and Danilo Camargo in heaven.

Her faith and tenacity while fighting cancer, demonstrated her resilient joy of life and made us proud. The pain of your leaving us is grand, but the peace of your eternal rest is greater.

Memorial services were held in Panama with one to follow at Riverside National Cemetery.

Friends and family can honor Mrs. Quiles at:

Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church Castroville Fri., Sept. 21, 2018 with mass and rememberance at 5:30pm.
