Daniel L. Brown

Modesto - January 8, 1951 - June 24, 2018

Dan passed away at age 67 in Modesto, CA a few weeks after a diagnosis of lymphoma.

Dan was born in Burlington, Colorado to Viola M. and John C. Brown. In 1963 the family moved to Salinas, CA. Dan graduated from North Salinas High School in 1969. During these years the family was active in the Hillcrest Methodist Church.

Dan attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and graduated with a B.S. in Mathematics in 1974. He found his first job in Monterey, CA and worked for various companies there for the next 35 years as a computer programmer and software engineer. In 1976 he married his Cal Poly girlfriend, Sharyn Reager, and they made their home in Salinas, CA. They welcomed two boys, Aaron and Christopher, who were very close to their Dad. Football season was always exciting with Dan rooting for his Minnesota Vikings.

In the early 2000's Dan became involved in the Democratic Party in Monterey County. He was elected to the Democratic Central Committee and in 2004 he helped form and was elected President of the Salinas Valley Democratic Club.

Dan retired early 8 years ago and moved to Modesto with Sharyn to live near their oldest son, Aaron. Although retirement was cut short, Dan and Sharyn had enjoyed many trips to Indio, CA and other beautiful places along the west coast and to Florida, Las Vegas, and British Colombia. They cruised to Hawaii, Alaska, and the Panama Canal.

Dan was predeceased by his parents, Viola Mae (Haddon) Brown and John Carter Brown. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sharyn Louise (Reager) Brown, and by their sons Aaron Daniel and Christopher James. He also leaves behind his sisters Barbara Richards, Norma Wienke (Steven), and brother John W. Brown (Cindy) along with nieces Colleen Weaver (Christopher) and Erica Neal (Garrett) and nephews Ben Brown (Jessica), Zach Brown, Tim Brown, and James Richards (Karrie).

A Celebration of Life and reception will be held on Saturday July 21st at 1:30 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship located at 2172 Kiernan Ave, Modesto, CA 95356.
