Guadalupe V. Covarrubias Obituary
Guadalupe V. Covarrubias

Salinas - At a young age and being the oldest, Guadalupe helped his father raise two brothers and a sister. When he was a young adult, he then moved to Mexicali, Mexico. It was there that he found the love of his life, Carmen Corona. Guadalupe and Carmen courted for a few years before they were married. He always said he loved Carmen so much, he married her four times. First in a civil ceremony in April 1958, second on December 13, 1958. He said he married on his birthday, so he wouldn't forget his anniversary. They renewed their vows on their 25th anniversary in 1983. And the last wonderful ceremony was for their 50th anniversary in 2008.

He would say some of his happiest moments were marrying his love, the birth of his children, and having lots of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was proud of learning English and becoming a US citizen, and especially of working for over 40 years at Spreckels Sugar Company and for over 10 years at Growers Ice. For a few years he also had a catering service that his children and grandkids would help out with. He loved working and keeping busy. His hobbies were cooking, gardening, woodworking, welding, and leather crafts.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Margarita (Carmen) Covarrubias, his son, Jose Luis Covarrubias, his parents, Luis Covarrubias and Mary Varela and his brothers Carlos Covarrubias and Peter Montes.

He is survived by his daughters, Lupe (Joey) Martinez; Patricia Flores, Rosa (Juan) Rodriguez, his sons, Arturo, Rene and Angel Covarrubias, 23 grandchildren, 35 greatgrandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. His siblings, Francisco Covarrubias, Socorro Romero, Jose (Araceli) Montes, Rey Montes, Alfredo (Alice) Montes, Grace (Viviano) Alvarez and Ernestina Montes.
