Manuel P. Lopez, 72, of Monterey, CA, born on August 25, 1948, passed away on January 7, 2021.
Manuel is the son of the late Juan and Florentina Lopez of King City, CA. Manuel was a graduate of King City High School class of 1966. He joined the United States Army and served a tour in Vietnam as a combat medic with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. His service earned him the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Two Overseas Service Bars, Purple Heart, Bronze Star with Valor, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, with Device and Parachute Badge. Upon his return from Vietnam he met the mother of his children, and married Maria Elena Zavala, they had 4 children together.
Manuel is survived by his children: David Gutierrez of Salinas, CA, Yvonne Lopez-Kuzel and her husband, Dennis Kuzel II of San Antonio, TX, Lisa Lopez of San Jose, CA and Manuel Lopez Jr. of Soledad, CA. His grandchildren: Julio Parra and Ezra Parra of Sacramento, CA, Brianna Brazell of San Antonio, TX and Zoe Lopez of La Vista, NE; his sister, Mary Adams and her husband Jon of Hailey, Idaho and brother Frank Lopez and his wife Jeanne of King City, CA. His nieces Kristina Lorenzen and Andrea Lopez. His nephews Dan Lorenzen, John Daniel Lopez and James Daniel Lopez. He is predeceased by his brother, John (Johnny) Lopez.
A funeral service was held January 13, 2021 at St John's Catholic Church in King City, CA.
Manuel will be dearly missed and we are grateful for his service to our country.
