San Diego - It is with great sadness that the family of Marta Camacho, born July 4, 1963, in Gilroy, California, announces her untimely death on November 20, 2020, San Diego, CA. Marta passed away surrounded by her loving family after a brief battle with cancer.

A Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at St. Therese of Carmel Church, 4355 Del Mar Trails Road, San Diego, and will be live-streamed: https://www.sttheresecarmel.org/live-stream

Marta graduated with honors from North Salinas High School in 1981 and received her Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry at the University of California, San Diego, in 1987. She spent ten years in Australia, proudly becoming a citizen, and worked at the University of Sydney.

In 2001, Marta returned to San Diego to be closer to her family and in 2004 met the love of her life, her husband, Owen, at a job interview. From that point they never left each other's side for 16 years, marrying in 2014. She gave birth to the delight of her life, daughter, Annica in 2007.

Marta loved camping under the stars, hiking, and exploring the outdoors with her family. She will be remembered for her creative spirit, embodied in themed parties, clever crafts, personalized games, and brilliant song and video parodies. But above all for her ability to inspire others, her keen sense of humor, and in particular for her caring nature. She used her enchanting enthusiasm and talent to ignite others' creativity and to spread her love to her friends and family. Her thoughtful and caring nature is truly exemplified by the adoption of her two precious rescue dogs, and her devotion to her daughter and husband in countless ways.

Marta will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Owen David Hardy, her daughter, Annica Leal Hardy, parents, Steve and Marjorie Camacho, her sister Lisa Burt and family, Anthony and wife Morgan, Allison, and Adam, her sister Stephanie Camacho and by her Aunts, Uncles, and extended family and loving friends and by her two rescue dogs, Bindi and Hugo. Marta is preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Leal Camacho, Grandparents, Marietta and Edward Scagliotti and Francis and Frances Camacho, and her aunt, Susan Anne Scagliotti.

I only just learned now about Marta leaving us. Owen, Annica, I’m so sorry. You were the light of her life. I know you know how blessed you were to have her as she you. Lisa, Stephanie, Mr. and Mrs. Camacho- my truly heartfelt sympathy at your loss. Marta was one of the sweetest friends of my life. We haven’t seen each other or talked for far too long. Every time we did she made me smile and brought laughter and joy. My love and prayers to you all in this terrible loss. She lived well and beautifully and we were all blessed by the smiles and light she brought us. Goodbye dear beautiful friend.

She was the "other" Marta in our class and I admired her intelligence, wit, silliness, kindness and humor in school and thereafter for a few years seeing her off and on. I am so sorry we lost touch yet it seems she had a beautiful life blessed by a beautiful marriage and child. Her father was my father's barber so I'd hear little bits on how she was doing. She was amazing and beautiful inside and out. Many, many blessings and prayers of strength, comfort and healing to her entire family. Thank you Marta for making so many of us smile, laugh and feel loved in your presence. Extra hugs to Lisa her sister and our other classmate as I know they loved each other so. Blessings, Marta Martinez-Fife, NSHS Class of '81.

Words fall short of expressing my sorrow for your loss. I am deeply sorry to hear about the passing of my dear high school friend. Marta was a joyous student leader. We shared many memories of student activities with lots of Viking spirit and laughter. I can’t imagine the sadness you must be feeling from your loss. May the love of those around you help you through the days ahead. I’m grateful for how she blessed my life with her friendship.
