Delos Richard Archer

Delos Richard "Dick" Archer, 70, of Salinas, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 24, 2014. He was born Feb. 5, 1944 in Richmond.

Dick was raised in Salinas. He attended Santa Rita, Lagunita Elementary School, Washington Jr. High, Salinas High School, North Salinas High, graduated from Hartnell Jr. College in Salinas, with an AA Degree in Agriculture. He received numerous awards in FFA and 4-H and was a 4-H leader for Natividad 4-H club for many years.

Dick married Beverly Ann Redfern on Aug. 9, 1963. They celebrated their 50th Anniversary on a Mediterranean cruise and visited Delos Island in Greece.

Dick started working in the corrugated paper industry in Nov. of 1963, and continued providing boxes to customers until his death. He established D.A. Packing Co. and worked as a broker for the last six years.

Dick and Bev enjoyed traveling around the world and going on cruises with his sisters and brothers-in-law. Having just returned two weeks ago from a Western Caribbean cruise with his wife, sisters and brother-in-law.

Dick was preceded in death by his son, Charles Delos Archer in 2007; his sister, Joan Archer Booker Eiland in 2009; as well as his parents, Delos Odom Archer and Lorena Richardson Archer.

Dick is survived by his wife, Beverly Ann Archer; sisters, Rev. Betty M. Shaw of Salinas, Nancy Hinson of Hendersonville (Nashville) TN, Susan Baker of Oakdale, and Helen Kraft of Fresno; brothers-in-law, Steve Kraft and James Eiland of Fresno; sister and brothers-in-law, Betty and Walt Daoro of Gonzales, Barbara and Richard Simon of Fresno. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephew.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and Monday, March 3, 2014 from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m., at Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 W San Luis St., Salinas.

Graveside service will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott St., Salinas, CA 93901.
