Janna Marie (Lewis) Henry

Aug. 28, 1926 - Sept. 11, 2016

Janna Marie (Lewis) Henry, 90, lifelong resident of Salinas, passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016, with her family by her side. She was born Aug. 28, 1926, in Seminole, OK.

Janna was fondly known and loved by many as "Nana". Janna moved to Salinas in 1932 and attended local schools and graduated from Salinas High School in 1945. She met the love of her life, Christopher Henry in 1948 while he was stationed at Ft. Ord, Seaside. They were married March 7, 1949 before he was deployed to Korea. They were married until his death in June of 2011. Together they raised three daughters and one niece, Sharon Johnson. They became surrogate parents to many of their daughter's friends. Janna spent as much time as she could with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, after she retired from the phone company in 1984 with 38 years of dedicated service. She enjoyed spending time at the Henry compound at Miller's Lodge in Arroyo Seco, entertaining family and friends, family vacations, crabbing in Oregon, fishing at the Salton Sea, the California Rodeo and motorhoming with the love of her life, Christopher Henry, who was affectionately known as "Papa" by their lifelong friends.

Janna is survived by her daughters, Christine (James) Stroh of Sacramento, Cathryn (Don) Cooper of King City, and Cynthia Henry of Salinas; niece, Sharon Johnson of Rancho Cordova; nephew, Fred Henry of Australia; grandchildren, Stacie Cooper, Billy Henry, Katie Tossie, Michelle (Tommy) Eastin, Stefani (Danny) Page, Fred (Meredith) Howe; 10 great-grandchildren, and sister, Wanda Hayford of Santa Cruz whom also survive. Janna also leaves behind a host of very much loved friends, numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Christopher C. Henry; adored grandson, Michael Cooper; parents, Ed and Julia Lewis; sisters, Theda and Juledra; brothers, Wesley and Keith Lewis, and her faithful dog and fierce protector, "Fanny".

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Rd., Salinas, CA 93905.
