James Hayes Obituary

Jimmy was born on September 8th, 1961, in Santa Monica hospital to James and Gloria Hayes. He has two brothers, Mike and Steve. The Hayes/Swanson family have been longtime home owners and residents of Avalon. Jim's grandfather was the Avalon dentist for many years. Jimmy arrived in Avalon at 2 days old flying on the four-engine aka mothership. He was then known as the "mother ship baby." Jim moved to Long Beach with his parents in 1964. He attended Mark Twain Elementary, Bancroft Middle School, Lakewood High School, and eventually finishing up at Long Beach State University. After that he moved back to his beloved Avalon. He would eventually become the president of the Catalina Men's Golf Club and enjoyed planning and playing in all of the tournaments. Fate would bring him together with his wife Sharon while working at Solomon's Landing, and making many lifelong friends. Jim and Sharon married in 1992 in Long Beach. They have two children, Alexis and Jack. Jim was a big advocate for many junior golf programs on the island, as well as, in Long Beach. He encouraged participation from mainlanders as well as local students. Jim was a coach and President of Lakewood Village little league and an active member of the Long Beach Century Club. Jim and Sharon attended Long Beach State Dirtbag games regularly. Jim leaves many Avalon friends, including lifelong Avalon friend Barbara Sheker Hoskins who resides in Texas. Interment will be in Avalon Cemetery on a date to be announced.
