David Durnell Obituary

David E. Durnell, 89, of 566 Mapledale Road, DuBois, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, at his home.
Born May 13, 1926, in Grampian, he was a son of the late Victor E. Durnell and Geneva Blodgett Durnell. On Aug. 11, 1953, he married Elizabeth V. Spiers Durnell. She survives in DuBois.
Before retirement, David was employed as a U.S. Postal Service driver, DuFAST bus driver, an auto parts delivery driver, a medical courier for DRMC and Dick Whitaker.
He had also worked at gas drilling rigs.
David was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a Private First Class in the reconnaissance company 637th Park Destroyer Battalion in the Pacific Theater.
He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Phillipines Liberation Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal.
He was Protestant by faith.
He enjoyed watching his grandchildren playing and was an avid NASCAR fan.
He is also survived by one son, Donald Durnell of DuBois; two daughters, Deborah (Jack) Drummond of Fairmount City, Diana Eberly of DuBois; grandchildren, Shawn Eberly of DuBois, Jessica (Andy) Bricen of Sabula, Kathy Kramer of Erie, Michael Durnell of Escondido, Calif., Randy Durnell of DuBois; great-grandchildren, Courteney Leonard of Boston, Mass., Kyle Teriberg Jr. of Erie, Mia, Aaron and Amber Eberly of DuBois, Lincoln Bricen of Sabula; three sisters: Betsy Harmon of Reynoldsville, Laura Hetrick of Pulaske, Doris Foltz of Waterford.
He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Betty; grandson, Mark Kramer; infant great-grandson, Ayden Eberly; four brothers: Richard, James, Edward and Allen "Bud" Durnell; and two sisters, Grace Cramer and Hazel Burkett.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, at the Bernard P. Snyder Funeral Home in Reynoldsville. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Whitaker officiating. Burial will be in Lakelawn Memorial Park, Reynoldsville.
Military honors will be accorded by the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
